Our story and team

Wilderness Medical Consultants (WMC) offers comprehensive training and certification in practical Wilderness First Aid for everyone from the beginner to the medical professional.
WMC was developed in 2009 by Dr. John Peachell, an avid outdoor recreationist who is trained as a Cardiac Surgeon. As an active backcountry skier, climber, mountain biker, and whitewater paddler, Dr. Peachell recognized the need for First Aid training that emphasized a high standard of medical care and emergency management for people working and recreating in remote wilderness settings.
WMC program materials, content, delivery, and curriculum development are overseen by our Medical Director, Dr. Stephen Wheeler. Our Instructor Team is comprised of experienced outdoor leaders who are also highly trained First Aid providers and Paramedics. All WMC 1st Aid programs are very intensive and students will participate in a challenging academic program augmented by realistic scenarios complete with simulated injuries.
